Victory!

We did it! The Democratic Party takes up Prop 13 reform!
I want to start by saying thank you for all of your support. This weekend the Democratic Party adopted Evolve’s Prop 13 reform platform as a priority resolution. 10 Evolve volunteers made the trip up to Sacramento to talk to delegates. We made a strong case, and over 800 delegates signed a pledge to talk with legislators about Prop 13 reform and to only endorse candidates for Assembly and Senate who support changing Prop 13.
This is a huge victory for all of us who believe changing Prop 13 and requiring that commercial properties pay their fair share is critical to fixing our budget, funding our schools, and getting our state back on track. The press took note. The resolution made headlines in over 20 publications around the state, including a San Francisco Chronicle story with the headline “What third rail? CA Democrats support changes to Prop 13.”
You can read the resolution here, and Evolve’s press release here.
We’re going to keep building momentum from here. Our next goal is to pass this resolution through 100 local school boards and city councils. Local government has felt the brunt of Prop 13 since it passed in 1978. Our elected officials need to send a message to Sacramento that enough is enough. It’s time to reform Prop 13.
Thank you again for everything you do. As Margaret Mead wrote… “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thingthat ever has.”
