Who Will Be Number 13?
Jeffrey Pu
Property taxes used to be an important source of funding for our schools and public services. But Prop 13 has decimated property tax revenues. Local governments are starved of funds and have seen their power diminish year after year as Sacramento has stepped in to fill the void. That’s why we are reaching out to school boards and city councils across the state to build grass-tops support from local leaders. This will show Sacramento that we have a broad base of support for Prop 13 reform.
Right now, support is snowballing. Our organizers have been busy – blasting emails, making calls, and speaking at board meetings across the Bay Area. Twelve school boards have passed our resolution calling for commercial properties to finally pay their fair share, and three in the past week alone. With five more on the agenda for the next two weeks, there’s just one question: who will be number 13?
