November 2014 Endorsements

After a whole lot of work, Evolve has published its official list of endorsements for the 2014 General Election. In our continued effort to get elected officials across the state to go on record supporting common sense policy solutions, we invited every candidate for federal, state and local office to complete our Candidate Questionnaire. The response has been phenomenal; over 650 candidates running for office in California filled out our questionnaire, demonstrating overwhelming support for our 15 core policy questions. Over 87% of respondents agreed that Prop. 13 should be reformed so that large commercial property owners pay their fair share in property taxes to fund our schools and public services. This is further proof that Prop. 13 is no longer the third rail of California politics.

Aside from candidate endorsements, we've also endorsed a number of ballot measures and propositions across California, including measures designed to increase funding for public school districts across the state. This list of over 125 local funding measures is a stark reminder of just how underfunded our public schools are in California. Districts in counties from Humboldt down to San Diego are passing endless waves of bond measures and parcel taxes just to keep their schools from falling apart (to see the list for yourself, please click here). This list of local school funding measures, our candidate responses as well as our daily interactions with everyday folks are constant reminders of the need to reform Prop. 13. Instead of asking individuals and working families to shoulder an ever-increasing share of the burden, we owe it to ourselves to find a better solution. Having large commercial properties pay their fair share is the best way to adequately fund our schools and public services.
