schools & Communities First Ballot Measure

Invests in Our Schools, Our Communities & California’s Future

The League of Women Voters California, the California Federation of Teachers, PICO California, California Calls, Advancement Project California and Evolve California have qualified an initiative for the 2020 presidential ballot.

This historic initiative will:

  • Restore over $11 billion a year in revenue for our schools and local communities by closing the Prop. 13 Corporate Loophole.

  • NOT raise taxes on homeowners, renters, or small businesses.

  • Help small businesses by eliminating the burdensome business personal property tax while also leveling the playing field for new businesses.

  • Mandate full transparency and accountability for all revenue restored to California’s schools and local communities.

It's Time for Large Corporations to Pay Their Fair Share

Proposition 13 passed in 1978 as a way to help homeowners. Most people don't know that a loophole in Prop. 13 has allowed large corporations to benefit the most. This loophole has increased the tax burden on individuals and decimated funding for our schools and public services.

We are working on a statewide, grassroots campaign to close the corporate loophole in Prop. 13. This common-sense reform will generate $11 billion a year for our schools and public services while maintaining protections for all residential property owners.

For the last four decades, commercial property owners have saved billions of dollars while the tax burden on homeowners has vastly increased. Chevron alone is pocketing over $100 million a year because they are still paying property taxes based on what their land was worth in the 1970s. Now more than ever, this must change!

Join the Movement Today!

We can't outspend large corporations, but by building a grassroots movement, we can definitely out-organize them. As a 100% grassroots-funded organization, we rely on the support of people like you. Join us in the fight for California's future!
